En relación con esta problemática, consideramos los aportes realizados por dos filósofas, Hannah Arendt y Adela Cortina, que abordan la cuestión del rechazo al otro que se encuentra en condiciones de vulnerabilidad —apátrida, refugiado, “sin hogar” o pobre— buscando dar cuenta filosófica de estos problemas en el contexto de la cultura occidental. Sostenemos que, si bien hoy la dignidad humana y los derechos fundamentales de las personas se reconocen desde el derecho y desde lo ético, todavía se vulneran los derechos de los migrantes, sea por actitudes prejuiciosas en los países por los que transitan o se establecen, sea porque no se ha resuelto aún la efectiva articulación entre la dignidad humana, como principio universal, y los derechos fundamentales. In the globalized world in which we live, we are witnessing an unusual increase in the number of political refugees and a migratory dynamic that exposes these individuals and groups to innumerable risks and vulnerabilities. To reflect on this problem, the contributions made by two philosophers, Hannah Arendt and Adela Cortina, are considered. They address the issue of rejecting the other one who is in conditions of vulnerability stateless, refugee, “homeless” or poor seeking to give philosophical account of these problems in the context of Western culture. We maintain that, although human dignity and the fundamental rights of people are recognized today from an ethical and legal point of view, the rights of migrants are still violated, either because of prejudicial attitudes of people in the countries through which they transit or settle, or because the effective articulation between human dignity, as a universal principle, and fundamental rights has not yet been resolved.
